Box Score Duluth, MN. - The St. Scholastica Men's Soccer team wrapped up their rainy Saturday afternoon game today against Macalester College. After a hard-fought battle and a dramatic second half, the Saints fell 1-0 at home.
How it Happened
1st Half
Early in the first half, Macalester was dominant. They took five shots in the first 12 minutes. Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) made four massive saves for the Saints.
It wasn't until 19:39 that the Saints could make a shot attempt. Akeem Robotham (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College (Johnson County CC)) went on a run and tried to beat the goal with a low left shot, but the Scots goalkeeper denied him the goal.
The Scots had another solid attempt at 29:34 but the Saints' defense prevented the ball from even getting close to Hallberg in net.
Both teams continued to make substitutions in the hope of being the first team to get on the scoreboard.
The Saints made their last attempt with a shot by Elijah Seehof-Flory (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) with just 11 seconds left in the half, but he missed high.
The first half ended with a 0-0 tie.
2nd Half
The momentum in the second half was undeniably strong. Both teams knew how important a goal would be. The Scots tallied the first shot attempt of the half at 45:59 and the Saints followed close behind with a shot off target just 40 seconds later.
Gabriel Marchesoni (Surrey, BC, CA) made a huge push for a goal at 56:15 but the Scots goalkeeper saved his shot just by the tip of his fingers.
The intensity was high as both teams began to get physical, multiple yellow cards were given throughout the half.
Macalester was on the grind for a goal, they took four shot attempts in six minutes. Then, at 67:29, the Scots found the back of the net.
Ongoing attempts by the Saints had the Scots on their toes. But the Scots would continue to double down on the offensive end.
The clock continued to click down and the Saints were unable to find the back of the net. The Scots won the game 1-0.
