DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell this afternoon to the Cobbers from Concordia-Moorhead. The Cobbers led by 15 points at halftime, and despite the Saints putting together two efficient quarters of scoring in the second half, the Cobbers came away with a 84-66 victory this afternoon.
How it Happened
Early on in the opening quarter, the Saints were able to take an early lead, as Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) was able to score on a pair of layups, and Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) sunk a shot from three-point range to give CSS a one-point lead.
Moments later, a three-pointer from Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) and a jumper from Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) helped keep St. Scholastica on top, leading 12-10 over the Cobbers.
The Cobbers were able to end the first quarter on a 12-2 run, taking an eight-point lead over CSS after one quarter.
Lind once again, opened up the second quarter with a layup, and after a successful trip to the foul line by Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS), the score sat at 23-18 in favor of Concordia-Moorhead.
Concordia-Moorhead went on a 14-0 run before Lind scored the next field goal for the Saints.
Later in the quarter, the Saints got help from the free throw line by Nia Hacker (Farmington, Minn/Eastview HS) and Voigt, and to close out the first half, Voigt got a three-pointer to fall, as Concordia-Moorhead took a 43-28 lead into halftime.
The Saints offense got started in the second half with a layup from Lind and a jumper by Imdieke, as the Saints still faced an 18-point deficit.
With just a few minutes to play in the third quarter, the Saints got a lot of help, with layups from Carlson and Lind, a jumper from Imdieke, and a three-pointer by Hannah Compton (Anoka, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS), bringing the score to 59-42.
Carlson scored the opening two field goals for the Saints in the fourth quarter with a jumper and a layup, followed by Compton's second three-pointer of the game on the ensuing possession.
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS (Hamline University)) got her first three-pointer of the game to fall, as the Saints still trailed 78-59.
In the closing minutes of the game, Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) was able to get a layup to fall and convert a free throw, but the Cobbers were able to close out the final minutes of the game, coming away with a 86-64 victory over CSS.

The Saints (6-7, 3-6) will be back in action on Monday, where they will travel to Northfield to take on St. Olaf. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
