Lind, Carlson Help Propel Women’s Basketball to Double-Digit Victory Over St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team made the trip to Northfield this afternoon to take on the Oles from St. Olaf. After both teams battled to a tie score at halftime, the Saints outscored the Oles 36-18 in the second half to give itself its seventh win of the season, coming away with a 58-40 victory. 

How it Happened
The Saints were able to jump out to an early lead in the first quarter, with Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) and Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS), and a jumper from Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS), taking a 7-5 lead. 

The Saints got some help from the free throw line later in the quarter from Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) and Lind, as the score sat at 10-10 after one quarter. 

Bierschbach and Carlson both scored for CSS to open the second quarter, extending its lead to 14-10. 

Minutes later, Carlson scored on back-to-back possessions, but the Oles were holding its own, as the Saints' lead was decided by just one point. 

The Saints scored its last two field goals of the first half courtesy of a pair of layups from Lind, as both teams were tied at 22-22 after one half. 

St. Scholastica got early scores to begin the third quarter, as Lind scored a pair of layups, as well as jumpers from Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) and Carlson, with the Saints taking a 31-26 lead. 

Katie Vaske (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS (Hamline University)) and Carlson scored on the Saints' next two possessions, extending its lead to nine points. 

Layups from Voigt and Lind helped keep the Saints in front, which would be followed up with jumpers from Bierschbach and Vaske to close out the quarter, with the Saints on top 48-33. 

Carlson scored on two of the Saints' first three field goals, with the other going to Voigt, as the Saints expanded its lead to 22 points. 

Following a Lind layup, Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) would score the final point for the Saints at the free throw line, giving the Saints a 58-40 victory over St. Olaf this afternoon.

The Saints (7-7, 4-6) will be back in action on Wednesday, where they will host the Auggies from Augsburg. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
