Men's Soccer Falls in Season OpenerĀ

DULUTH, Minn. ā The St. Scholastica men's soccer team fell in its opening game of the 2023 season this afternoon, and its first on the newly named Kenny Harkins Field, taking on the Blugolds from Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Blugolds scored three goals before Rodrigo Gonzalez (La Libertad, El Salvador/Colegio San Francisco) scored the lone CSS goal today, falling by a score of 7-1.Ā

Wisconsin Eau-Claire (1-0-0) opened up the scoring in today's game, in just the third minute, coming off a free kick to take an early 1-0 lead.Ā

17 minutes later, the Blugolds once again found the back of the net, as the lead stood at 2-0, a score that would remain at the half.Ā

After Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored six minutes into the second half, St. Scholastica responded with a goal of its own, courtesy of Rodrigo Gonzalez (La Libertad, El Salvador/Colegio San Francisco), and assisted by David Lopez (Jalisco, Mexico/Universidad de Guadalajara) and Keegan Chastey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), as the trio all earned their first points of the season. The goal was able to trim the deficit to 3-1.Ā

The Blugolds responded with three goals in the next four minutes, to extend its lead to 6-1 over CSS.

The last goal of the contest was scored in the 61st minute, when another goal was scored on a Blugold free kick, as Wisconsin-Eau Claire took today's season-opening contest over St. Scholastica by a score of 7-1.Ā
