SAINT PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In their first conference double header of the season, St. Scholastica ends up going 0-2 against St. Catherine University. Game one ended in a 5-2 loss and game two ended in a 7-1 loss.  

CSS 2, St. Kates 5
The Saints started the game with leaving two runners on base in the top of the first inning but held St. Kates as well in the bottom of the inning. In the second inning, CSS scored their first run of the game off an RBI single by Aryn Blumenthal (Linwood, Minn./Forest Lake HS) bringing in Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS). In the bottom of the second St. Kates was able to tie up the score with two outs. In the top of the third inning Samantha Paniagua (Corona, Calif./Centennial HS) got the inning going with a double and was brought in by a single from Lauren Laviano (Maplewood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) bringing the score to 2-1. St. Kates came back quickly in the bottom of the third and scored two to take a 3-2 lead. The fourth inning was scoreless on both ends and the Saints remained scoreless in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, St. Kates put up their final two runs. Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) came in for Savannah Romero (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS (Bethel)) with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. By the end of the game, the final score was 5-2 St. Kates over CSS. 

At the plate for CSS, Maddison Blade (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS), Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS), Paniagua, Laviano, and Blumenthal had the five hits throughout the game. In the circle, Romero pitched 4.2 innings and had one strikeout and Rosenthal pitched 1.1 innings with three strikeouts.

CSS 1, St. Kates 7
The first two innings of game two remained scoreless for both teams. Emma Stanoch (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) started the third inning off with a lead off single. Within this inning, the Saints scored their one run of the game off a single by Paniagua which brought in Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS). Unfortunately, the 1-0 lead didn't last long as St. Kates came back in the bottom of the inning and put up two. St. Kates put up two more in the fourth and in the bottom of the fifth they scored their final three runs of the game. Ashley Matejka (Oak Forest, Ill./Carl Sandburg HS) came in for Rosenthal in the bottom of the sixth inning. CSS wouldn't able to pull anything together in the top of the seventh and ended up finishing the game with a 7-1 loss. 

At the plate for CSS, Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) went 2-3 with two singles. In the circle, Rosenthal went 5.0 innings with three strikeouts and Ashley Matjka pitched 1.0 with zero strikeouts.

The Saints (10-8, MIAC 0-2) will have their home opener on Monday the 8th against Concordia College. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
