EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey traveled down to Hobbs Ice Center to face the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the second time this season. These teams played back in Duluth on Jan. 24, where in that game CSS scored first, but Eau Claire scored four power-play goals that would lead them to take the first matchup, 4-2.
How it Happened
The Blugolds would score first midway through the first period. Taylor Leonard (Mound, Minn./Mound Westonka HS) would be the lone Saint who would get a shot on goal in the period, compared to Eau Claire's 11.
A minute and a half into the second, Lisa LaRoche (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) would fire a shot on net that would be blocked by a Blugold, and the puck would bounce over to Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) who was in the right spot to put the puck behind the netminder, tying the game 1-1. Hanley Block (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) and LaRoche would have the assists.
Six minutes later, Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) would lead the puck to teammate Emily Sabol (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS), who would put the Saints ahead 2-1. Bussey and recent transfer Paige Blattner (Avon, Minn./River Lakes HS) would be credited with the assists.
A roughing call on CSS, would give Eau Claire the opportunity to score on the power-play. Than UWEC would add another goal with about seven minutes remaining, and ended the period with a 3-2 lead over the Saints.
The final period would bring trouble for the Saints, as the Blugolds would score twice. The Saints wouldn't be able to get anything going offensively as they again only recorded one shot on goal and added four penalties as well. The final score was 5-2, Saints fell to the Blugolds twice this season.
