BLAINE, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team was back on ice after a 6-4 win over Bethel University Friday night. The Saints would hit the road and see the Royals for the conclusion of the series at Bethel University Arena. These two teams would battle all night, but it was CSS who would claim the series sweep tonight. The Saints defeated the Royals 5-3, improving to 14-5-2 overall and 11-0-1 in the MIAC standings, where they remain on top of the conference.
How It Happened
Most of the period would be scoreless, until CSS got on the board first just under halfway through the first. Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) would be the goal scorer, Danylo Sukhonos (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Brovary Professional Lyceum (New York Aviators-USPHL)) with the assist. At 3:37, twin brother Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) scored an unassisted goal to take the 2-0 lead. Just when the period was ending, CSS would go on a power-play, but it was BU who scored the short-handed goal to head into the locker room only down by a score.
Similar to last night, the Royals got cookin' as they added two more goals, and would now be ahead 3-2 with just under six minutes in the second. A Royals hooking penalty, would let Carsen Richels (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS(University of New Hampshire)) tie the game up and add more points to his weekend totals as he scored his third goal of the series. Teammates Nick Lanigan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Wichita Falls-NAHL)) and Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) would get the assist.
Another strong finish in the third would allow the Saints' scoring opportunities. First, Tristan Shewchuk (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada/St. Joseph HS(Springfield Jr. Blues NAHL) would put this game away as he scored at the 8:26 spot, giving the Saints the 4-3 advantage. Seitz would record his second assist of the night. With twenty seconds remaining, Richles (unassisted) would score on an empty-net, marking his fifth point on the weekend.
