BLAINE, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored first on the night, and would tie up the game at the end of the second, but Bethel's strong third period would allow them to score two goals to defeat CSS 4-2 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action at Bethel University Arena.
How it Happened
The Saints got on the board quickly, at 17:06 Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) went top shelf and gave CSS the 1-0 start, Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) was credited for the assist. The Royals would answer with a goal of their own with just under four minutes left. The Saints would be called for a hooking call late that would carry into the second period.
With the advantage, Bethel scored sixteen seconds into the second to take the 2-1 lead. The Saints would have an opportunity as Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) would get control of the puck, go behind the netminder and then fire a shot in front, tying the game up with four minutes remaining. The Saints would get on the power-play late, but wouldn't be able to capitalize. CSS and BU would head into the locker room tied 2-2
The Saints would have a total of three power-play opportunities to the Royals zero, but it was the Royals who score twice first at the 12:44 spot. Then CSS would pull their goaltender with about two minutes remaining, and that's where BU would add another score on the empty net to take tonight's contest 4-2.
Goaltending
Ashlea Arvidson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) had 25 saves on the evening. Anna Hanson recorded 37 saves for the Royals.
