WESTFIELD, Ind.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team finished up the Crossover Series today, taking on Concordia-Chicago. The Stingers took an early lead over CSS, and although the Saints made a late comeback, the Stingers took this one by a score of 7-5.
How it Happened
The Stingers took an early lead in the first inning, scoring a run on an RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead.
Concordia-Chicago answered back after a clean bottom of the first inning, scoring two more runs on one hit, and a Saints error, taking a 3-0 lead in the process.
Jack Harris (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep (Skyline CC)) opened up the bottom of the second inning with a triple to right field, and promptly scored on a groundout by
Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS), giving him an RBI, and cutting the deficit to 3-1.
Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) struck out two Stinger batters in the top of the third inning, keeping the score where it stood.
Concordia-Chicago added one more run in the top of the fifth, scoring on a Saints error, making it 4-1 in favor of the Stingers.
The Saints quickly responded in its half od the fifth, which began with a
Kyle Baker (Benson, Ariz./Benson HS (Central Lakes College)) walk, followed a single by
Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS). With one out,
Ryan Garlick (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS (Iowa Central Community College)) scored Baker, and made the score 4-2.
Later in the inning, Garlick stole second, and both Novak and Garlick scored on an RBI single by Harris, tying the game at 4-4.
The Stingers recaptured the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring a run on an RBI triple.
Concordia-Chicago expanded on its lead in the seventh inning, scoring two runs on four hits, while stranding two, to take a 7-4 lead heading into the later innings.
The score remained at 7-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth, with the Saints needing three runs to send the game into extra innings. With two outs, Schelonka singled, and scored on the next at-bat, as Harris drove him in with an RBI double. Unfortunately, the Saints would be dealt with and fell in today's game by a score of 7-5.

Jack Harris (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep (Skyline CC)) had a day today at the plate, going 3-4 with two extra-base hits to go along with three RBI.
Ryan Garlick (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS (Iowa Central Community College)) reached base three times today, recording two hits and a walk, while also snagging a base on the basepaths.
Jack Tiemann (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) also recorded two hits in today's action.
