Notables

-Bostedt makes 31 saves, S% .969

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey concluded their two-game home MIAC series with Saint Mary's University Saturday afternoon  at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth, Minn. Last night it was the Cardinals who scored seven goals to the Saints four to grab the win. Today, the Saints would redeem themselves as they split the series with a 4-1 victory.

The first saw only one goal scored, unlike yesterday when there were five first-period goals in Friday's series opener, it would be the home team that would jump out to a 1-0 lead at 8:42. Who else, but this week's MIAC Player of the Week, Carsen Richels (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS(University of New Hampshire)) scoring for his team. Richels has scored at least one goal in the past five games.

So, who had the assists? First, it would be the MIAC assists leader, Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)). Second would be the runner-up in that same category, twin brother Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)).

The Saints would quickly add another goal to start the second period. Nick Lanigan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Wichita Falls-NAHL)) would score his second goal of the season. Carsen Richels (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS(University of New Hampshire)) would be credited for the assist. Minutes later, SMU would be called for roughing, although Saint Mary's would score a short-handed goal now only trailing 2-1. It didn't take long as 40 seconds later Nathan Driver (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/River East Collegiate(Virden Oil Capitals MJHL)) gave the Saints the 3-1 advantage. Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) and Lanigan had the assists.

The Cardinals would have a power-play chance late in the second, but wouldn't be able to make this game any closer, as CSS headed into the locker room up by two scores.

The third period saw penalty-free action from both teams. As the period was coming to an end, SMU would pull their goaltender on multiple occasions, looking for a comeback. Just under a minute to play, Filimon added to his stat sheet with an empty-netter to seal the 4-1 win for the Saints.

Goaltending
Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) picked up the win tonight as he had 31 saves. For the Cardinals, A.J. Ruskowski would receive the loss, he recorded 25 saves.

Up Next
The Saints (15-6-2, 12-1-1 MIAC) remain on top of the MIAC standings and will play their final two games of the regular season against Augsburg University on Friday night. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
