WINONA, Minn.  (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey played the first of the two-game away stint with Saint Mary's University Friday night at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.

How it Happened
The Saints would play through fifteen minutes with a total of 9 shots to start the first. The last five minutes would start with a roughing penalty on the Cardinals, this allowed CSS to score their 10th power-play goal on the season. Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) would put her team on the scoreboard first. Earning her 12th assist on the year was Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS).

Three minutes into the second, the Saints would add another goal, this time it was leading scorer Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) with her 8th goal of the season. Pohlkamp has now scored a goal in four consecutive games. Both teams would go 0-for-1 on power-plays, but things were looking bright as the second ended with the Saints leading 2-0.

The third period has sometimes brought trouble for the Saints this season, and it could have as the Cardinals had two power-plays opportunities in the final period, but the Saints would keep their opponents out of the net. SMU would have a total of seven shots on the goal compared to the six from CSS. Helping keep the Cardinals out of scoring chances were the Saints winning 63% of the faceoffs tonight.

The Saints pick up their 8th win on the season and keep their MIAC win streak afloat with two consecutive conference wins (Bethel 2/4, St. Mary's 2/10).

Goaltending
Ashlea Arvidson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) was outstanding in the net tonight, saving all shots on goal with 28. Arvidson earned her 3rd shutout on the season, 6th total. For the Cardinals, Celeste Rimstad totaled 22 saves.
