DULUTH, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team hosted the Auggies from Augsburg at Reif Gymnasium on National Girls and Women's in Sports Day. Unfortunately, the Saints offense struggled to find the bottom of the night, as Augsburg defeated CSS by a score of 56-44.
First Half
Early on, the Auggies went on an early 11-3 run, as the Saints were led by
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)), who hit a key three-pointer.
Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) got a nice bucket to fall, which she got fouled on, and converted the and-one, as Augsburg led 13-6.
Vaske got the final field goal of the first quarter, as Augsburg led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) scored the first points for CSS in the second quarter, hitting a three-pointer, as the deficit for CSS was now six points.
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) scored the last basket for CSS in the half, as Augsburg led 23-13 at halftime.
Second Half
In the early moments of the second half, Turner got a jumper to fall and Hurley got a three-pointer to go, as the lead was trimmed to 28-18.
The Saints were able to trim the Auggies lead to six, after free throws by
Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji High School) and Broberg. Turner got a layup to fall on the fastbreak, as CSS trailed 30-24.
Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) got her first points of the game with a layup, which was followed by a layup by Hurley, to make the score 37-28.
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) got a layup, scoring the first points of the final quarter, to make it 37-32.
The Saints got the closest it would get in the game after a three by Broberg, as Augsburg led 37-35.
The Auggies then went on a 13-2 run, which was ended by a Johnson three, but the Auggies were able to close tonight's game out, defeating CSS 56-44.

The Saints (1-18, 1-16 MIAC) will be back in action next on Saturday, where they will travel to Winona, to take on Saint Mary's. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
