Women’s Basketball Drops Road Matchup Versus Saint Mary’s

WINONA, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell this afternoon, as the Cardinals from Saint Mary's got the best of CSS today, defeating the Saints by a score of 83-69.
 
First Half
The Cardinals took an early 7-4 lead, with CSS getting help from layups by Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) and Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School).
 
CSS cut the lead down to just one point, as Broberg hit a pair of three-pointers, and Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) got a jumper to fall, as CSS trailed 13-12.
 
Imdieke got the final bucket for the Saints in the first quarter with a three-pointer, as CSS trailed 25-17 in a high-scoring first quarter.
 
In the second quarter, Imdieke and Broberg got the Saints offense started, but the Cardinals still led 30-23.
 
With four minutes to play in the half, Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji High School) got her name on the scoresheet, with a layup and three-pointer.
 
Saint Mary's took a 46-33 lead over the Saints at halftime.
 
Second Half
Imdieke scored the first basket for CSS in the second half, but Saint Mary's still held a 12-point lead.
 
Saint Mary's then went on a 14-0 run, when Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) got her first points of the half with a three-pointer, but the Cardinals led 63-42.
 
In the fourth quarter, Johnson and Hurley each got three-pointers to fall, followed by a layup by Turner, which made the score 69-56 in favor of the Cardinals.
 
With four minutes to play, Hurley scored on a layup, followed by three's by Broberg and Imdieke.
 
Imdieke scored the last two baskets for the Saints in today's matchup, as CSS fell by a score of 83-69.
 
Up Next
The Saints (1-19, 1-17 MIAC) will hit the court again on Wednesday, where they will travel to St. Paul, to take on the Pipers from Hamline. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
