DULUTH , Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Women's Hockey team faced up against the second ranked Falcons of the University of Wisconsin River Falls. Unfortunately, this game did not go as planned as the Saints would fall 5-0 in the end.
What Happened
The first period would see some exciting action on the offensive ends of the ice, with the Saints getting more shots on goal than they typically would in a period with six shots on goal registered. However, they would not be fortunate enough to score on any of those six attempts. On the other side of the ice the Falcons would shoot 15 shots on net, and score on three of those shots. The first period would come to an end with a score of 3-0 favoring the Falcons.
The second period would see the Saints' defense really kicked it up a notch on their own end of the ice. The Saints' defense would only allow the Falcons to get nine shots on net, and they prevented any opportunity to score in this period. The Saints offense would maintain its power as they would get six shots on net once more, however, just like the first, they would be unable to score in the second period. The period would come to an end with a final score of 3-0.
The third and final period would see the Saints give everything they had. However with the level of competition faced, and the scoring deficit, their defense would falter a bit in this period, allowing 22 shots on net, and letting two of those shots hit the back of the net, extending the Falcons lead to five goals. The Saints would try their best to get something going on their end of the ice, however, the Falcons defense was just too much for the Saints offense, and they were only able to get three shots on net, not being able to score on any of them. The game would come to an end with a final score of 5-0, giving the Falcons another win in the books.
