How it Happened
Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) and Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored the first points for the Saints' offense tonight, but the Gusties held an early 7-5 lead over the Saints.
After Winesett scored his second basket of the night, Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) and Matho Ojullu (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS (Dakota County Technical College)) scored their first points on a pair of layups.
A layup from Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater HS) cut the Gusties lead to seven, as the score sat at 20-13.
Later in the half, Andre Crockett Jr. (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS (Rochester Community College)) and Winesett each hit a pair of three-pointers, bringing Gustavus' lead back down to single digits, with Gustavus holding a 35-27 lead.
The Saints closed out the first half on a high note, highlighted with a three-pointer from Moore, a pair of free throws from Crockett Jr., and Winesett converted three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt. Gustavus led 49-37 at half.
Winesett picked up right where he left off in the second half, hitting a jumper to make the deficit 10 points.
Raymond would score on back-to-back possessions for CSS, including a dunk on a great pass from Moore.
Winesett would score on two of three possessions for the Saints later in the half, as Thomson scored on the other possession with a three-pointer, but the Gusties lead still sat at 12 points.
