DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team hosted the Yellowjackets from UW-Superior this evening in a border battle. The Yellowjackets took a seven point lead into the halftime break, but the Saints made a close attempt to take back this game, but UWS was able to pull away in the closing seconds at the free throw line. The Yellowjackets took tonight's game by a score of 70-62 over CSS.

How it Happened
Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) got the scoring started for St. Scholastica, as his pair of three-pointers and layup gave CSS an early 8-7 lead.

Later in the half, Andre Crockett Jr. (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS (Rochester Community College)) scored his second basket of the game after Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) got a jumper to fall, cutting the Saints' deficit to 18-16.

Crockett Jr. wasn't done, scoring twice more on a pair of jumpers, to keep the Saints within reaching distance.

Koy Nelson (Port Wing, Wis./South Shore HS) scored his first points moments later, scoring on a three-pointer, which would be followed by a converted and-one by Aaron Keykal (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) and Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater HS) scoring a layup in the closing seconds. The Saints went into the half trailing 37-30.

Winesett came out of the break scoring a pair of layups, followed by a fast break slam dunk from Moe Washington (Silver Spring, Md./Hibbing Community College), on a great pass from Crockett Jr., as the Yellowjackets still held a seven-point lead over the Saints.

Baskets by Washington and Crockett Jr. would make the score 48-43 as the game neared the midway point in the second half.

After the Yellowjackets expanded its lead back to double-digits, Moore hit another three-pointer and Thomson scored strongly at the rim to bring the deficit down to just five points.

Thomson continued his strong showing with a big three-pointer, keeping the Saints deficit to under double-digits.

Moments later, Winesett brought back the momentum for the Saints, scoring on a nice finish at the rim and converting the free throw, as he was fouled on the play.

Layups from Moore and Winesett in the next minutes brought the lead down to just four points, as the Yellowjackets clung on to a 64-60 lead.

Unfortunately for the Saints, a Thomson layup with 1:47 left to play would be the last Saints points, as the Yellowjackets were able to hold on to take a 70-62 victory over CSS.
