DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team hosted the Auggies from Augsburg this afternoon in its home finale at Kenny Harkins Field. Unfortunately for the Saints, the Auggies scored two goals in the first, and four goals in the second half, to take today's match by a score of 6-2.
How it Happened
The Auggies offense came out flying in this one, scoring first in the 10th minute, to take a 1-0 lead.
15 minutes later, Augsburg scored its second goal of the half, extending its lead to 2-0 over CSS.
After the Saints failed to capitalize on opportunities, they were able to finally cash in when Parker Chastey (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) netted his first goal of the season, courtesy of assists by Rasmes Fuentes and Andres Gradilla (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio Cervantes Costa Rica (Oakland City)), to cut the deficit in half.
In the early stages of the second half, the Auggies netted a pair of goals less than 10 minutes apart from each other, extending its lead over CSS to 4-1.
CSS was not finished however, as Gradilla scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Keegan Chastey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), to make the score 4-2.
The Saints looked to make a late push against the Auggies, but two more goals in the closing minutes would give Augsburg a 6-2 victory over St. Scholastica this afternoon.
