DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team start the new year in the win column as they defeat Concordia College-Moorhead 7-3 in Friday's night Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.
How it Happened
The Saints started their scoring streak early into the contest with an Arkhip Ledenkov goal. Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) and Danylo Sukhonos had the assists. With just about five minutes remaining in the first period, Duluthian Nick Lanigan scored, Sukhonos again with the assist which put the Saints ahead 2-0.
The second period was where most of the goal-scoringt took place for both teams. Once again, Arkhip would find his groove and score for the Saints, his twin brother, Filimon Ledenkov fittingly had the assist, along with Carsen Richels (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS(University of New Hampshire)). Saints took the 3-0 lead. Penalties by both teams would allow each other to score, first, the Cobbers scored at the 7:36 minute mark and made it a two score game. The Saints would fire back on their own power-play, and reserve the previous Saints goal, Filimon got the score, Arkhip with the assist, but add Sam Olson (Duluth, Minn./Cloquet HS(Minnesota Wilderness NAHL)) to the mix this time. The score was now 4-1.
With just under four minutes left remaining in the second, Nathan Adrian would put the Saints up 5-1, assist on the score where made by Tristan Shewchuk and Declan Young. The Cobbers wouldn't quit without making the game a little more interesting, they scored on back to back power-plays, first with under a minute left and than seven minutes into third, now they were only trailing by two goals.
As the minutes played on, the Cobbers would pull their goaltender, this led to an unassisted empty net score by Sam Olson (Duluth, Minn./Cloquet HS(Minnesota Wilderness NAHL)). With two minutes remaining Seitz would give seal the deal for the Saints, giving his team the 7-3 advantage and victory, assists on the goal were from Shewchuk and Nathan.
Goaltending
Jack Bostedt had 35 saves for the Saints, while Aaron Dickstein, recorded 26 saves for the Cobbers.
