Augsburg Gets the Best of Women’s Basketball in Tough Road Loss

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled to Minneapolis today to take on Augsburg in a conference matchup. Unfortunately, the Saints trailed early heading into halftime, and couldn't quite gain any momentum, as Augsburg took today's matchup by a score of 75-54.
 
First Half
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) got her first points in the opening minutes, hitting a three-pointer to start the Saints off in the first quarter.
 
A couple minutes later, Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)) hit a jumper to make the 7-5 in favor of the Auggies.
 
After Augsburg extended its lead to 12-5, Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) got her first points on a three-pointer, to cut the deficit to five.
 
The Auggies went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter and took a 21-8 lead into the second quarter.
 
Augsburg extended its lead up to 19 points until Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) got a jumper to go off an assist from Imdieke, followed by a three-pointer by Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) on the fastbreak, to make it 27-13 in favor of the Auggies.
 
Imdieke got another three to go just a few possessions later to cut the deficit to 11 points.
 
The Auggies then went on a 12-5 run to end the first half, taking a 44-23 lead over the Saints into halftime.
 
Second Half
Opening up the second half for CSS, Vaske hit converted a three-pointer, followed by a Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) layup, gave CSS early momentum, trailing still 47-29.
 
Halfway through the third quarter, Broberg got another jumper to fall, however, Augsburg went again on a big run to end the third quarter with a lead of 66-39.
 
In the final quarter of today's game, Broberg and Hurley each scored early baskets, which was followed up with a three-pointer by Vaske a few minutes later, but CSS still tailed 68-47.
 
With roughly three minutes to play, Faur scored on consecutive possessions, to give her five points in the second half.
 
Ultimately, Augsburg iced the game in the closing minutes, taking today's game against the Saints by a score of 75-54.
 
Up Next
The Saints fall to 0-9 and stand at 0-7 in conference play with the loss today. They will be back in action on Saturday, where they will host Macalester at Reif Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
