How it Happened
Once again, the Saints scored first in tonight's contest. Halfway through the period the Saints would intercept the pass near the centerline, it was a two-on-one breakaway for the CSS. Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) would control the puck and then perfectly pass the puck to her left to a wide-open Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) who would put it away for a Saints 1-0 lead
Into the second, the Saints wouldn't be able to claim the series shutout as the Pipers scored quickly with two minutes into the period. Although the Saints would answer right back with their own goal. Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) had a beautiful behind-the-back to Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) who would give the Saints a 2-1 advantage. Pohlkamp scored her 33rd goal of her career, earning her 50th point of her career. Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) would also be added on the assist. As the period was coming to an end, with thirty seconds left Hanley Block (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) would score for CSS, Hull would claim her second assist of the night. The Saints would head into the locker room up 3-2 over the Pipers.
The third period saw the Pipers have two power-play opportunities but would come out scoreless. The Pipers and Saints would play on until the very last minute, when Hamline would pull their goaltender trying to put an extra attacker on the ice. Bussey would find Emily Sabol (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) who raced down and scored on the open net, giving the Saints the 4-2 victory and the series sweep over Hamline.
