Women’s Basketball Takes Loss on the Road to St. Catherine’s

ST. PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled to St. Paul this evening, taking on the Wildcats from St. Catherine's University. The Wildcats opened up an early lead over the Saints, and ultimately built on its lead, defeating CSS by a score of 82-53.
 
First Half
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) got the scoring started for the Saints today, converting a layup of an assist from Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS), but the Wildcats led 5-2 early.
 
The Wildcats went on an 11-2 run, with the only Saints points coming from a pair of free throws by Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School), to take a 16-4 lead into the second quarter.
 
After the Saints got some points back, scoring from the free throw line, Hurley got a three-pointer to fall off an assist from Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)), cutting the deficit to just seven-points.
 
The Saints saw the Wildcats' lead grow back to 13 points, until Imdieke got a layup to fall, to make it 26-14.
 
CSS' offense was helped moments later by Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) and Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)), who both put points on the board, to make it 33-18 in favor of St. Catherine.
 
The Wildcats took a 38-22 lead over CSS at halftime.
 
Second Half
Imdieke scored first for CSS in the second half, as she got a three-pointer to fall, but CSS still trailed 43-25.
 
CSS got its second and third field goals of the half, as Broberg and Johnson both got layups to go.
 
Nia Hacker (Farmington, MN/Eastview High School) scored her first points of the contest with a three-pointer of her own with three minutes to play in the quarter.
 
The Wildcats extended its lead to 23 points heading into the final quarter of the game.
 
Hurley secured a rebound on the defensive end and followed it up with a layup on the other side, as CSS trailed 63-43 with seven minutes to play.
 
With right around four minutes to play, Broberg made her presence felt with a jumper, followed by a three-pointer, as CSS still trailed big.
 
The Saints got its final field goals of the game with layups by Turner and Johnson, but the Saints ultimately fell by a score of 83-53.

The Saints (0-15, 0-13 MIAC) will be back in action next on Wednesday, where they will travel to St. Joseph to take on Saint Benedict. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
