OSHKOSH, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team split on Sunday. The Saints were able to take the win in the first game against Ripon College (Wis.) 11-3 in five innings. However, CSS was unable to take the win in the second game against host No. 12 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh as they got run ruled in the fifth inning 9-0.

CSS 11, Ripon 3 (F/5)
The beginning of the first game started strong for the Saints as the number two hitter Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) hit a triple down the third base line scoring Samantha Paniagua (Corona, Calif./Centennial HS) from first. The Saints finished the top of the first inning with two runs scored. CSS then went three up three down on defense in the bottom of the first inning.

St. Scholastica had another strong inning at the plate in the second as they had five hits and five runs bringing the Saints to a strong 7-0 lead. The Saints defense then shut down Ripon in the bottom of the second with two strikeouts by Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS).

CSS was scoreless throughout the third and fourth inning but the Red Hawks (0-6) were able to get on the board. Ripon was able to scratch three runs across the plate in the fourth off of four hits bringing the score to 7-3. St. Scholastica responded quickly as they scored four runs on four hits in the top of the fifth. This brought the score to 11-3 and all CSS needed to do was hold them in the bottom of the fifth to win the game on a run rule, which is exactly what they were able to do and took the win in their first game.

At the plate, Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) led the team by going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) and Lauren Laviano (Maplewood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) both went 2-for-3 at the plate.  Howe earned her second win of the season, scattering six hits over five innings.

#12 UW-Oshkosh 9, CSS 0 (F/5)
The second game didn't start out as strong for the Saints as all nine of the Titans' (5-3) runs were scored within the first two innings. CSS started on defense and had two runs scored on them off of three hits in the first inning and had seven runs scored on them off of four hits in the second.

After the second inning St. Scholastica was able to hold Oshkosh scoreless, but were unable to scratch any runs across and ended up being run ruled in the fifth inning.

At the plate, the three hits for the Saints were by Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), Paniagua, and Dail.
