NCAA RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – The NCAA officially announced the participants for next weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday and St. Scholastica track & field's Samuel Eben Ebai Jr. (Yaounde, Cameroon/P.S.S. Mankon) will get an opportunity to compete for a national title in the men's 60m dash.

First Sprinter in Program History to Qualify
Eben Ebai Jr will be the first sprinter to compete at a NCAA Championship event (indoor/outdoor) in the men's program's history. He is the first men's qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championships since Kevin Wagner in the Heptathlon in 2016 and the first St. Scholastica athlete to qualify for the indoor championships since Casey Hovland participated in the women's 5,000m at the 2018 championships.

He qualified for the championships by winning the Wartburg College (Iowa) Qualifier on Saturday with a meet and program record time of 6.83, which tied for the 11th-fastest in the nation this season.

Eben Ebai set program records this year in the 60m dash, 55m dash and the 200m dash. He won a total of 10 events during the year and has not been defeated by a NCAA Division III sprinter yet this season in the 60m dash. Twice this year Eben Ebai did not win the 60m dash. First was at the Warren Bowlus Open when he false started in prelims. In the other instance, he was defeated in the 60m finals at the Mark Miller Invitational when he beaten by three NCAA Division II sprinters from Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Action Begins Friday
The NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina beginning on Friday, March 11. It will be the first NCAA Indoor Championships held since 2019 due to the pandemic. The 60m dash prelims will take place on Friday 3:05 p.m. (ET) with the finals taking place on Saturday at 3:40 p.m. (ET).
