csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team fell victim to a Macalester College squad that connected on 14, 3-pointers as the Scots ended the Saints' season by a final of 79-66 Saturday in the First Round of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs.
How It Happened
The Scots (13-12) scored the first five points of the game, but the Saints responded with a 10-2 run after five straight points for
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS).
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) put the Saints up 17-14 with 11 minutes to go in the first half. After Macalester regained the lead, a
Connor Bich (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown HS (Dakota Wesleyan)) 3-pointer made it 20-19 St. Scholastica with eight minutes remaining before halftime. However, the Scots then made three straight 3-pointers to open up a 28-20 advantage. Macalester later went on an 11-2 run to go up 13. The halftime score would be 39-29 Scots. Macalester made seven 3-pointers and shot 59% from the floor in first 20 minutes.
The Saints could not get closer than eight in the second half as the Scots made seven more 3-pointers in the half and held off the Saints to advance by a final of 79-66.
Top Performers
Bich led the Saints with a career-high 15 points on five, 3-point field goals.
Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) added 12 points and Carlson 10 points. Bich also led the team with six rebounds.
Caleb Williams had 30 points to lead the Scots. Coby Gold added 20 points.
End of Season
The Saints finish with an overall record of 5-21 and was one of only two MIAC schools to play all of their scheduled games this season. CSS will say goodbye to seniors
