Women’s Hockey’s Surrenders Power-Play Goal in OT to #6 Gusties

Notables
-Huseby with a season-high 48 saves
-Gustavus scored all three of its goals on the power-play

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Sixth-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College was able to put an extra skater on the ice due to a penalty in the 3-on-3 overtime period and scored six seconds into that power-play to escape with a 3-2 victory Thursday over the St. Scholastica women's hockey team at Mars Lakeview Arena.

How it Happened
The Saints scored less than two minutes into the game on a Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) goal to make it 1-0. Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) had the assist. The Gusties tied it at 1-1 with a power-play goal seven minutes into the game and the score remained 1-1 into the first intermission.

Gustavus would outshoot the Saints 26-4 in the second period and took the lead with a power-play goal five minutes into the period. However, that lead was short-lived as Ashley Healy (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) scored an unassisted goal three minutes later to tie the game at 2-2.

With the score still at 2-2 in the third, the Saints would have 1:36 of 5-on-3 hockey after back-to-back penalties on the Gusties. CSS got three shots on net during that time frame, but the score remained deadlocked.

60 minutes was not enough as the game went to a 3-on-3 overtime session for five minutes. The Saints would be called for a penalty two minutes into overtime, which put a fourth skater on the ice for Gustavus. The Gusties scored six seconds later to defeat the Saints 3-2.

Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) recorded 48 saves for the Saints, while Katie McVoy had 14 saves for the Gusties.
