ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled to Arden Hills this evening to take on the Royals from Bethel University in a conference matchup. The Saints faced a big deficit at halftime, and unfortunately were unable to make any ground as Bethel defeated CSS this evening by a score of 64-45.
How it Happened
The Royals got on the board first in this one, taking a 9-0 lead before
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) got the Saints going with a jumper courtesy of an assist by
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)).
Later in the first quarter,
Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) got a three-pointer to fall to make the game 9-4 in favor of the Royals.
In the early moments of the second quarter, Frase hit a jumper to cut the Saints' deficit to just eight points.
The Saints were able to trim the Royals lead with just under a minute to play in the first half, as Imdieke hit a three-pointer and
Nia Hacker (Farmington, MN/Eastview High School) was able to convert a pair of free throws, as CSS trailed Bethel by 14 heading into the second half.
The Saints got going in the second half when Frase got a layup to fall off of an
Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) assist.
Just a minute later, Frase would get another layup to fall off of an offensive rebound to it a 41-24 game in favor of the Royals.
CSS was able to convert on back-to-back possessions as Indieke and Hacker both got three-pointers to go to cut Bethel's lead to 13 points.
With two minutes left in the third quarter,
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) converted a jumper off an assist by
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) and a few possessions later Hacker converted from beyond-the-arc to give CSS a little momentum.
In the fourth quarter, Broberg got a three-pointer to go, followed by a jumper by Vaske gave CSS a momentum push.
The Saints were only able to get a few more baskets to go in the fourth quarter, the final one came from
Grace Balut (Sandstone, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) with just under a minute to play, as Bethel was able to take tonight's matchup by a score of 64-45.

The Saints (0-7, 0-5 MIAC) will be back in action next on Saturday, where they will travel to Northland to take on the Knights from Carleton College. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
