NORTHFIELD, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team struggled offensively this afternoon in a matchup against Carleton, shooting just 27.4% from the field for the game, as Carleton was able to pull away and defeat CSS today by a score of 74-45.
First Half
Early in the first quarter,
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) and
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) both got jumpers to fall, giving the Saints' offense momentum.
CSS struggled to find the bottom of the net for the next few minutes until
Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) and Hurley both converted on back-to-back possessions to cut CSS' deficit to four points, trailing 13-9.
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) got a three-pointer to fall in the closing minutes of the first quarter, as CSS trailed by six after one quarter.
After an early layup by Imdieke in the second quarter, Frase converted on an and-one to make it a 24-17 ballgame in favor of the Knights.
With four minutes to play in the half,
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)) scored her first points of the game, as CSS trailed 27-21.
Hurley scored on a last-second layup at the end of the half, as CSS trailed the Knights by 12 going into halftime.
Second Half
After the Knights extended its lead, leading by 17, Imdieke scored on a three-point shot, followed by another jumper of her own on the ensuing Saints possession.
After a cold streak offensively,
Nia Hacker (Farmington, MN/Eastview High School) scored her first points of the game on a three-pointer, as CSS trailed by 19.
The fourth quarter saw CSS struggle offensively, scoring just nine points, while shooting just 21.4% as Carleton pulled away, defeating CSS by a score of 74-45.
