Women’s Basketball Overmatched Against Saint Benedict’s

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team hosted the Bennies from Saint Benedict College this evening in a conference matchup. The Bennies got out to an early lead in this one, and never looked back, as CSS trailed by 16 at halftime, and fell in today's matchup by a score of 77-50.
 
How it Happened
The Saints were able to get out to an early 8-6 lead, as Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) got the scoring going for the Saints with an early layup. Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji High School) followed up with a three-pointer, and Broberg responded with a three of her own to make it 8-6 in favor of CSS early.
 
The Bennies went on an 8-0 run before Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) converted a layup to make the score 14-10 now in favor of Saint Benedict's.
 
The Saints were able to reclaim its lead as Johnson hit her second three-pointer and Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)) converted a layup to give the Saints its lead back by a score of 17-16.
 
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) got a layup to go early in the second quarter, as CSS trailed by just a point in the early minutes.
 
CSS went cold in the second quarter, as the Saints' three point deficit at the end of the first quarter, became a 16-point deficit going into halftime, as CSS trailed 40-24.
 
Johnson kicked off the scoring in the second half for the Saints, converting a layup in the early minutes.
 
Around halfway through the third quarter, Turner converted another layup and Nia Hacker (Farmington, MN/Eastview High School) got a three-point shot to fall as CSS still trailed in this one by a score of 50-33.
 
The Bennies extended its lead in the closing minutes of the third quarter, leading CSS by a score of 56-34.
 
Broberg got another three-pointer to fall and Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) converted a layup on an offensive rebound. Frase was able to record 10 rebounds tonight, as CSS still trailed by 20 points.
 
The Bennies were able to pull away from CSS in the fourth quarter, as CSS fell to the Bennies tonight by a score of 77-50.

The Saints (0-5, 0-3 MIAC) will be back in action on Saturday, where they will host St. Catherine's University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
