DULUTH, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team hosted the Wildcats from St. Catherine University at Reif Gynasium on Saturday. The Saints found itself down by 21 points at halftime, but a second half resurgence was able to give CSS a chance to come away with the victory. Unfortunately, the Saints' comeback attempt fell short as St. Catherine's walked away with a 65-53 victory.
How it Happened
The Saints got the scoring done first as
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) hit a three-pointer to give CSS its first lead of the ballgame.
With just about four minutes left in the first quarter,
Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji High School) got a layup to fall for her first points of the game, as CSS trailed the Wildcats 8-6.
In the second quarter Imdieke hit another jumper and
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) converted on an offensive rebound to cut CSS' deficit, trailing 24-12.
Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) closed out the scoring for the Saints near the end of the first half, converting a layup and hitting two free throws, as CSS trailed at halftime, 40-19.
Coming out of halftime,
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) hit a three-pointer and hit a pair of free throws to get herself going in the second half.
Following an Imdieke three-pointer, Broberg scored on a layup, grabbed a defensive rebound, and hit another three-pointer as CSS trailed by just 10.
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)) got a pair of free throws to fall, and Broberg scored yet another three-pointer, as the Saints only trailed now by eight points.
The Wildcats went on a little run in the final minutes of the quarter, but Broberg hit yet another three-pointer to end the quarter as CSS trailed by nine going into the fourth quarter.
The Saints couldn't repeat their magic in the third quarter, as the Wildcats extended its lead and pulled away in this game, as the Saints fell by a score of 65-53.

The Saints (0-6, 0-4 MIAC) will be back in action next on Wednesday, where they will travel to Arden Hills to take on the Royals from Bethel. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
