DULUTH, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – On a windy Saturday afternoon, the St. Scholastica men's soccer team hosted the Royals from Bethel University. Celebrating senior day, the Saints were able to send the crowd home happy, as CSS scored two goals in the second half to spark a comeback, defeating Bethel by a score of 2-1.
How it Happened
Early on, Bethel held the momentum, as
Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) was able to save four shots in the first eight minutes.
Hallberg stayed busy in the first half, as Bethel continued peppering the freshman goalie with shots.
Bethel cracked the scoreboard in the last minute of the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the half.
In the 48
th minute, Bethel was handed a yellow card that resulted in a penalty kick for CSS.
Arseno Hamilton (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George College (Trinidad State JC)) took the penalty shot, and after his shot was shaved, the rebound bounced back to Hamilton, and he found the back of his net to tie the game at 1-1.
Both teams played back-and-forth for the next 20 minutes, as the game slowly became more physical.
In the 70
th minute,
Ilhan Rrahoshi (Plymouth, England/) scored his second goal of the season, off an assist from
Colin O'Reilly (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS), to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. This goal would end up being the deciding factor, as CSS defeated Bethel by a score of 2-1.
