DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – Fourth-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls scored three power-play goals in the second period to break open a 2-2 game to defeat the St. Scholastica women's hockey team 8-2 Wednesday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The Falcons (15-1-0) made it 1-0 three minutes into the game, but the Saints countered with an
Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) goal on their first shot of the game less than three minutes later to make it 1-1.
Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) had the assist. River Falls regained the lead with 5:31 remaining in the period, but
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored on the power-play with two minutes left to make it 2-2 at the first intermission.
Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) and
Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) were credited with the assists.
The Falcons turned things up in the second period, holding the Saints without a shot on goal for the first 15 minutes of the period. In the meantime, River Falls earned three power-plays and scored goals on all three to take a 5-2 lead into the second intermission.
River Falls added three more goals in the final eight minutes of the third period to make the final 8-2.
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 29 saves for the Saints.
Ashlea Arvidson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) made 14 saves in relief. Sami Miller had 13 saves for the Falcons.
