Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road to Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – On Wednesday evening, the St. Scholastica's women's basketball team was defeated 74-39 by Augsburg University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action.
 
How It Happened
The first to get on the board was Augsburg (11-3, 11-0 MIAC) with a free throw. Following that, the Saints' Karli Nixon (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS) made a 3-pointer giving CSS the lead. However, Augsburg quickly took back the lead and was able to maintain it for the remainder of the game. The first quarter ended with CSS down 17-12. Seven of the 12 points were made by Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS). 
 
The second quarter was all Auggies, outscoring the Saints 24-7 to extend their lead to 41-19 at the half.
 
After the half, Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) ended Augsburg's 15-0 run by scoring four points in just over 30 seconds.  Elizabeth Jankila (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) then contributed six out of the eight points made throughout the remainder of the third quarter.
 
The Auggies would go on to win by a final of 74-39.
 
Top Performers
Hurley led the Saints again with 11 points. Nixon and Jankila both contributed seven points. Amelia Zmuda (Saint Anthony, Minn./Saint Anthony Village HS) led the Saints in rebounds with five.
 
Augsburg's Jen Masello led her team with 20 points, and Anja Smith contributed with 14 points.

CSS (0-14, 0-12 MIAC) will be facing the College of Saint Benedict on the road on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
