ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team battled the College of Saint Benedict throughout Saturday's contest, but a 13-0 run to start the fourth quarter by the Bennies was too much to overcome as the Saints fell by a final of 64-60.

How It Happened
The Saints got a 3-pointer from Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) followed by a Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) layup to take an early two-point lead. Later in the first quarter, back-to-back 3-pointers by Amelia Zmuda (Saint Anthony, Minn./Saint Anthony Village HS) and Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) made the score 15-10 St. Scholastica. The Bennies (10-5, 7-5 MIAC) scored the final four points of the period to make it 15-14 CSS after the first quarter.

St. Ben's registered the first five points of the second quarter to make it a 9-0 run. St. Scholastica responded with a 6-0 run to regain the lead with Broberg contributing five points during that span. Saint Benedict later went on a 7-0 run to take a 30-23 lead. However, the Saints finished the half strong and a Frase 3-pointer at the end of the first half that made the halftime score 31-30 Bennies.

St. Ben's scored the first five points of the second half to extend its lead back to six. A Grace Balut (Sandstone, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) layup made it 44-41 with 3:30 to play in the period, but the Bennies would hold a 49-45 advantage after three periods.

The Saints were held scoreless for the first five minutes of the fourth quarter as Saint Benedict opened up a 58-45 lead. St. Scholastica committed six of their 13 turnovers in the game during that stretch. However, CSS came storming back with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to five with two minutes left.

A Balut layup made it a one possession game with 20 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, the Bennies got the shooter's roll on one-of-two free throws with 10 seconds left to seal the game by a final of 64-60.
