GENEVA, Ohio (

Ryan Steger (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) ran to a ninth-place finish on Saturday in the Finals of the 800m run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute.
How It Happened
In Saturday's nine-runner field, Steger entered with the fifth-fastest preliminary time from Friday. His approach for the Finals on Saturday was different than Friday's prelims as he charged to the front in the first 200 meters instead of waiting until the final 100 meters to make his move.
Steger was at the front of the pack at 200 meters, but would slowly drop back as the field hit 400 meters. As the runners hit 600m Steger found himself in the back of the pack and could not recover down the stretch to finish ninth with a time of 1:57.10.
By finishing ninth, Steger also just missed out on earning All-America accolades as those were handed out to the top eight finishers. University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Kyler Lueck, who won the 800m Indoor title, swept the event championship for the year by capturing the outdoor title with a time of 1:51.94.
End of Season
Steger was the first St. Scholastica men's runner to compete at a NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship and came home with a ninth-place finish becoming only the third male in program history to place in the top 10 at a NCAA Outdoor Championship.
