Steger to Compete in 800m at NCAA Championships

NCAA RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica sophomore Ryan Steger (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) was officially announced as a qualifier for the 800m run at this week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships; the NCAA announced Saturday morning.

Steger, who has set program records in each of his last four meets, posted the 15th fastest time in the nation in the 800m run Thursday night at the Gregory Invitational, hosted by North Central College (Ill.). That time is the second-fastest among runners from the Central Region.

Steger is also the first men's runner to qualify for a NCAA Track & Field Championship (Indoor/Outdoor) in St. Scholastica history and the first male to qualify since 2016. The Saints have had at least one athlete qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships every year since 2011.

The NCAA Championships are taking place at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio and is co-hosted by the University of Mount Union and Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. The prelims of the 800m run will take place at 3 p.m. local time on Friday, while the finals will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. local time.
