Softball Back in Minnesota Tuesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team returns to Minnesota after splitting four wins and four losses in Arizona over Spring Break with a doubleheader against Augsburg University on Tuesday in Minneapolis.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints went 4-4 last week at the Tucson Invitational in Arizona. Their last game on Friday, March 15, where they pulled out a win 7-6 against Mount Mary University (Wis.).
-Freshman pitcher Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) leads the team on the mound with 38 strikeouts.
-Howe also leads the team with 20 hits so far this season.  
-Catcher Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) was responsible for 43 putouts last week. Bishop also leads the team in RBIs with 12.
-Freshman Krysta Felber (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) rose in the lineup and recorded nine hits in the last eight games.
-Freshman Pitcher Tori Berg (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) started off her collegiate career well with two strikeouts against University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
-Senior Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) hit her first home run this season against Dickinson University (Pa.). She also threw 15 strikeouts over the course of the week. 
-Sophomore Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) is currently 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts.
-CSS is 7-0 when it out-hits opponents or hits are tied; The Saints are 0-9 when being out-hit.
 
What You Need to Know about Augsburg:
Record: 7-7, 0-0 MIAC
-The Auggies are coming off their Spring Trip to Arizona where they went 4-6.
-Like the Saints, Augsburg also faced Skidmore College (N.Y.), George Fox University (Ore.) and UW-Platteville with the same results as CSS.
-The Auggies already have three wins over Northland College and a loss to Crown College from the UMAC.
-Senior pitcher Samantha Anderson leads the team in strikeouts with 64 and an ERA of 2.86.
-Anderson also leads the team with 25 hits and 21 RBIs.
-Anderson is a three-time All-MIAC performer and holds the school record for strikeouts.
-Junior catcher Anesia King leads the team in runs with 17.
-The team has 10 home runs
-The Auggies have been picked to finish fifth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season.
 
Series Record: Augsburg leads 7-6 (Last Meeting: 2-1 Augsburg – 3/17/2010)
 
Series History: The last meeting took place in Tucson, Arizona, where the Auggies were able to put up two runs in the third to defeat the Saints by one.  
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will play their first conference games at home in a doubleheader against Martin Luther College on Saturday on the turf of Saints Field.
