Women’s Hockey Set to Face Foresters in NCHA Semifinals

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – For the second straight year, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team will face Lake Forest College (Ill.) in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Semifinals on the campus of Adrian College (Mich.).

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints enter the weekend ranked No. 10 in the D3Hockey.com polls, and have moved up to 12th place in the PairWise rankings.
-For the first time this year, NCAA Division III hockey will be using the PairWise rankings to determine at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament.
-The Saints roll into the final weekend of playoffs on a program record 10-game win streak, which is the third-longest current streak in the nation.
-The Saints swept Concordia University Wisconsin in the quarterfinals last weekend with wins of 5-1 and 4-1.
-The Saints have won 20 games this season, the first time in program history they have achieved that mark.
-The Saints had three players this season with a +20 rating or better, and seven with a +10 or better.
-Sophomore Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had two assists in Friday's win over the Falcons, then on Saturday she scored twice to cap off a four-point weekend.
-In doing so, Anderson set a program record for points in a season and is tied for most assists in a season (30). Her 42 points are tied for fourth nationally and her 30 assists rank second in the country.
-Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) also scored twice on Friday and scored three times over the weekend.
-Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) has upped her career totals in wins to 33 and has a program record six shutouts this season.
-With another win this season, Thomeczek can set a program record for wins in a season.
-Senior Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) is two points shy of becoming the fifth player in program history to reach 80 points in a career.
-Freshman Amber Tilander (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) leads all NCHA freshmen with 18 points.
-The Saints rank ninth in the nation with a power-play rate of 23.1 percent.
-CSS is 16-1 this season when scoring the first goal.
-The Saints are out-scoring teams by 38 goals in the second and third periods combined.
-The Saints are 8-3-1 on the road this season.
-CSS has never advanced to a NCHA Championship game.
 
What You Need to Know about Lake Forest:
Record: 16-6-5, 11-3-4 NCHA
-The Foresters had only one loss in the NCHA this season, until the final weekend when they were swept by the Saints by a combined score of 3-0.
-Their only previous loss was a 3-2 defeat to Trine University (Ind.). They knocked off Adrian by going 1-0-1 against the top-ranked Bulldogs this season.
-The Foresters' swept Trine University in the opening weekend of the NCHA playoffs with an 8-1 and a 5-0 win.
-They closed their final six games of the season on the road and went 4-2-0 in those games.
-Senior Amy Budde leads the Foresters in points (33), goals (21) and assists (12). No other Forester has more than seven goals.
-Both junior Kate Fanning and freshman Olyvia Opsahl are second on the team with 10 assists.
-Junior goaltender Jacque Rogers has totaled 1259 minutes in net this season for Lake Forest. She has compiled an 11-6-4 record with a NCAA Division III seventh-best 1.14 GAA and a NCAA Division III fifth-best .956 save percentage.
-The Foresters are 3-3 in one goal games, and in two-plus goal games they're 13-3.
-Lake Forest is 15-0-1 when scoring the first goal.
 
Series Record: LFC leads 19-6-6 (Last Meeting: 2-0 CSS – 2/16/2019)
 
Series History: The Foresters have controlled the all-time series, but the Saints just got going back in the right direction with a sweep and will look to make it three straight wins over Lake Forest with a win on Friday. CSS has never won three straight in the series. The Foresters are 4-3 all-time in the postseason against the Saints and have eliminated the Saints in overtime each of the last two years.
 
Looking Ahead: The winner will be headed to the Slaats Cup Championship to play the host team Adrian College (Mich.) on Sunday at 2 p.m. (ET).
