Women’s Hockey to Host Augsburg for a Two-Game Series

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team will host for the second straight weekend against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponents when Augsburg University comes to Duluth for a pair of games.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints split the opening weekend, losing game one to Gustavus Adolphus College 2-1 on Friday, then upsetting fifth-ranked University of St. Thomas on Saturday 2-1.
-The win over the Tommies was the program's first over a nationally-ranked top 5 team.
-By no surprise, Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) got the starts in net for CSS, stopping 70-of-73 shots she faced in the opening weekend good for a .959 save percentage, continuing her dominant pace she left off at the end of 2018-19.
-Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored all three goals for CSS last weekend, and freshman Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) picked up two assists in her first weekend as a Saint.
-Anderson was named the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
-CSS went 0-for-6 on the power-play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
 
What You Need to Know about Augsburg:
2018-19 Record: 14-7-5, 11-3-4 MIAC
-The Auggies are gearing up for their opening series in 2019-2020
-The Auggies are projected to finish third in the MIAC preseason coaches' poll.
-Augsburg will return lead point scorer, senior Bridget Wagner. Wagner recorded 11 goals and 12 assists, to lead the Auggies with 23 points a season ago, she all had a team high 84 shots on goal.
-The Auggies finished third in the MIAC a season ago, averaging 2.8 goals per game.
-Augsburg also returns fellow senior Annie Juergens in net. Juergens started 17 of 26 games last season for Augsburg, including a 2-2 tie in Minneapolis against CSS. Finishing the season with a .900 save percentage and a 2.12 GAA.
-In 2018-19, the Auggies' power-play converted at a 20.7 percent rate. Though, they had a solid penalty kill, only allowing six power play goals all season in 76 attempts, good for a 92.1 percent rate, second-best in NCAA Division III.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 4-0-3 (Last Meeting: Tied 2-2, 10/27/19)
 
Series History: The Saints are 2-0-0 at home against the Auggies … Augsburg was the program's first-ever opponent in 2010 and the Saints came away with a 3-0 victory at Mars Lakeview Arena … CSS has scored three goals in all four wins and have scored less than three in the three ties.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will get their first taste of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play next weekend when they travel to Lake Forest College (Ill.) to take on the Foresters.
