Women’s Hockey Returns Home to Face Finlandia

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team hosts the Lions of Finlandia University (Mich.) seeking four crucial points in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) standings this weekend.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints come into the weekend against the Lions tied for second with Lake Forest College (Ill.) for the second place spot in the NCHA standings with 18 points.
-CSS has not played at Mars Lakeview since January 4.
-The Saints split last weekend with fourth-place Concordia University Wisconsin.
-The Saints recorded five goals last weekend, scored by three players. Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) and Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) both scored two goals, Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) added one as well.
-Sophomores Thompson and Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) both had two assist weekends.
-Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) now leads the team with 10 goals on the season; she has now scored double-digit goals in all three seasons she's put on the Saints sweater.
-Klaas needs three more goals to become the third Saint in program history to reach 40 in a career.
-Anderson and Thompson, along with freshman Amber Tilander (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS), all rank second on the team with seven goals apiece.
-Anderson leads the Saints and the NCHA with 26 points and 19 assists. Both of those are at least five ahead of the next closest player.
-Thompson and Klaas also have 18 points on the season.
-Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) has totaled 820:22 minutes in net this season; so far, she's totaled a 7-5-1 record with three shutouts. Her 2.05 GAA is third in the conference, and her .938 save percentage ranks second in the league.
-Thomeczek needs two more wins to tie Lindsey Hartfiel's program record for career victories.
-Closing in on the end of the season, the Saints power-play continues to dominate the league. They lead the league in power-play percentage at 23.9 percent, 6.1 percentage points over the second-place team.
-The Saints penalty kill ranks fourth and is holding opponents to a .132 conversion rate.
-The Saints are 6-3-0 at home this season.
-CSS outshoots opponents in the first period by a nine-shot margin but are outscored by two goals. In the second and third periods they are outshot by a combined 68 shots, yet they outscore opponents by 19 goals in those two periods.
 
What You Need to Know about Finlandia:
Record: 1-18-0, 1-11-0 NCHA
-Finlandia comes into the weekend last in the NCHA with two points.
-Finlandia got their first win since the end of last season with a 1-0 OT victory over Northland College last weekend.
-Freshman Taylor Pingrey recorded her first goal of her career with the GWG over Northland.
-Junior Bella Abear and Sophomore Abby Kolek leads the Lions with three goals.
-Pingrey leads the team with seven assists, and eight points. Her eight points are doubled the next closest player.
-Junior Annah Smiddy has played majority of the games in net for the Lions. This season she has totaled a 3.97 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
-Finlandia is only averaging 1.05 goals per game this season
-They are allowing 4.42 goals a game.
-This season the Lions are being outshot by a total of 612 shots through the three periods.
-The Lions are 0-8-0 on the road this season.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 20-0 (Last Meeting: 5-2 CSS – 2/3/2018)
 
Series History: CSS has dominated the all-time series between these two teams. There has never been a one-goal game in this series and only two, two-goal games. The Saints have recorded nine shutouts in the 20 games. They have scored double digits four different times, all four times where combined in two weekends.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints jump back on the road for one last regular season road trip this season as they'll travel to Aurora, Illinois to take on Aurora University next weekend.
