Women’s Hockey Returns to NCHA Play this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team travels to Indiana to take on Trine University in an important weekend in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) standings.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints come into the weekend against Trine tied with Lake Forest College (Ill.) for second in the NCHA standings.
-The Saints got swept the first week of January by Div. II Saint Anselm College and No. 4 ranked University of St. Thomas.
-Sophomore Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) leads the NCHA in points (21) and assists (14) and leads the team in goals (7).
-Anderson ranks second in NCAA Division III averaging an assist per game.
-Sophomore Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) and senior Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) also have 13 points on the season.
-Thompson is second in the conference with nine assists.
-Klaas' assist against St. Thomas gave her 60 points as a Saint, the seventh player in program history to hit that mark.
-Freshman Amber Tilander (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) leads all NCHA freshmen with 10 points.
-She ranks second in the league with three game-winning goals.
-Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) has seen the majority of time in goal for the Saints. She owns a 2.17 GAA to pair with a .933 save percentage with a 4-4-1 record.
-At the halfway point the Saints power play is 14/61 (.230) which leads the conference.
-CSS has four players ranked in the top six of the conference in power-play points (Anderson-8, Thompson-6, Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS)-5 and Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS)-5)
-Nundahl ranks second in the NCHA among defensemen with nine points.
-The Saints penalty kill is holding opponents to a .143 conversion rate.
-CSS leads all NCHA teams with +8 advantage in special teams.
-The Saints are 6-3-0 at home this season and 2-2-1 on the road.
-CSS has out-scored teams 32-16 in the second and third periods.
-CSS is 6-0 when it scores first.
 
What You Need to Know about Trine:
Record: 6-6-1, 4-3-1 NCHA
-The Thunder are in fourth place in the NCHA standings, three points behind the Saints
-Trine is 2-3-1 at home this season.
-The Thunder is coming off a 2-1 overtime loss at league-leading Adrian College (Mich.) last weekend … The contest was a non-conference game.
-Sophomores Kailey Cameron and Eryn Issacson lead the Thunder with eight points.
-Issacson ranks second in the NCHA with eight goals, Sula Argyris leads the team with seven assists.
-Junior Molly Scarborough has majority of the Thunder's starts this season. She owns a record of 4-4-0 with a .938 save percentage and a 1.60 GAA
-Trine is only averaging 1.92 goals per game this season
-They are allowing 2.08 goals a game.
-Trine gets outscored by five goals in the first two periods but outscore opponents by four in the third. This season Trine is being outshot by 92.
-The Thunder is 5-1 when scoring first and 1-5-1 when scored upon first.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 2-0 (Last Meeting: 3-1 CSS – 2/10/2018)
 
Series History: CSS swept the first-ever series between these teams last season outscoring Trine 10-2 in Duluth.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints continue their road trip when they'll travel to Mequon, Wisconsin to take on NCHA fifth place Concordia University Wisconsin next weekend.
