Women’s Hockey Travels to Michigan for the NCHA Final Three

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team heads to Adrian, Michigan where it will face Lake Forest College (Ill.) in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup semifinal on Friday. The winner advances to the championship game to face, host, Adrian College (Mich.) on Saturday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-This will be the third straight NCHA semifinals appearance for the Saints.
-CSS has never advanced to the NCHA championship game.
-CSS won its first round series over Concordia University Wisconsin thanks to a 2-0 victory in game two on Saturday.
-Freshman Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's victory.
-Sophomore goaltender Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) tied a program record with her sixth career shutout.
-The victory was the 16th of the season, a new program-high.
-The Saints enter the weekend one win away from 100 as a program.
-CSS finished 9-0-3 at Mars Lakeview Arena, the first time it finished unbeaten at home in program history.
-Another freshman, Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS), had an assist in both games of the first round series against the Falcons.
-Senor Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) also recorded an assist in both games last weekend.
-Sawyer leads the team with 17 goals and 28 points.
-The Saints are 10-1-2 this season when Sawyer records a goal.
-Senior Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)), who named to the All-NCHA team on Wednesday has at least one point in six of the last seven games.
-Johnson and Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) are tied for the team-lead in assists with 15.
-CSS has out-scored teams 37-19 in the second period.
-The Saints are 15-0-2 when they record the first goal and are 15-1-4 when leading or tied at the first intermission.
 
What You Need to Know about Lake Forest:
-Lake Forest enters Friday's semifinal with a 19-8-0 overall record and a 10-game winning streak.
-The Foresters advanced to the NCHA Semifinals by sweeping St. Norbert College (Wis.) by scores of 4-0 and 8-0.
-LFC has allowed only one goal in the last four games.
-The Foresters were 14-3-0 at home during the year, but only 5-5 away from home ice.
-Lake Forest will be led by NCHA Player of the Year Olivia Spellmire.
-Spellmire led the conference with 47 points by tying for the league lead with 21 goals and leading the NCHA with 26 assists.
-Sophomore Lexi Morgan tied with Spellmire for the league lead in goals with 21.
-Fellow sophomore Sydney Simone was second in the league with 25 assists.
-Junior Amy Budde tied with Simone for second in the league in points with 35.
-Budde led the conference with three short-handed points.
-Senior defenseman Kayla Griffith finished third in the conference among defensemen with 24 points.
-Freshman Megan Lyke led all NCHA rookies with 13 goals and 25 points.
-The Foresters have the second-best scoring offense in NCAA Division III averaging 5.19 goals per game.
-LFC also has the third-best power-play unit, converting 30 percent of its power-play chances.
-Sophomore goaltender Jacque Rogers is sixth in the nation with a 1.17 goals-against-average.
-Rogers also has eight shutouts, tied for third-most in the country.
-The Foresters are only 1-5 in one-goal games.
 
Series Record: LFC leads 18-4-6 (Last Meeting: 4-1 LFC – 2/17/2018)
 
Series History: The Foresters swept the Saints during the final weekend of the regular season down at Lake Forest … CSS and LFC met in last year's Slaats Cup semifinals, where the Foresters pulled it out in the mini-game … The teams have met six times in the postseason with each school winning three times … All six postseason meetings have taken place at Lake Forest.
 
What You Need to Know about Adrian:
-The Bulldogs have a bye to Saturday's championship game thanks to winning the regular season title and sweeping Marian University (Wis.) in the first round last weekend.
-Adrian has an overall record of 21-5-1 and is ranked sixth in this week's USCHO.com poll and fifth in the D3hockey.com poll.
-The Bulldogs will enter Saturday with a 12-game winning streak.
-Adrian has not lost at home this season with a 12-0-1 record.
-It has out-scored teams 65-7 at Arrington Ice Arena.
-The Bulldogs have eight shutouts in the last 10 games, led by NCHA Freshman of the Year Kate Turner.
-Turner leads NCAA Division III with 11 shutouts.
-She is third in the nation with a 0.93 goals-against-average.
-The Bulldogs have the second-best scoring defense in the country, allowing only a goal per game.
-Offensively, Adrian has the seventh-best scoring offense, averaging 4.15 goals per game.
-The Bulldogs have the second-best power-play unit in the nation and when combined with the penalty kill has the best special teams unit in NCAA Division III with a 62 percent success rate.
-Sophomore Kelly O'Sullivan led all NCHA defenseman with 28 points.
-She and fellow defenseman Kristi Zink tied for the team lead with 21 assists.
-Senior Rose Krasofsky leads the team with 16 goals.
-Junior Tory Harshman led the conference with eight power-play goals.
-The Bulldogs have out-scored teams by 34 goals in both the second and third periods.
-Adrian has won the last two Slaats Cup titles.
 
Series Record: Adrian leads 16-3-3 (Last Meeting: 11-0 Adrian – 11/18/2017)
 
Series History: The Saints tied the Bulldogs in the first meeting this season, but Adrian cruised to a win in game two of the series … Both games took place at Adrian … CSS and Adrian met during the 2016 Slaats Cup, which resulted in a series sweep for the Bulldogs … The Saints are winless in their last 13 meetings with Adrian (0-11-2).
 
Looking Ahead: The winner of the Slaats Cup Championship gets the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Tournament. The tournament field will be announced on Monday on NCAA.com. The NCAA Tournament begins on Friday, March 9.
