Men’s Soccer with Two Big Games on Homecoming Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team returns to action for a big Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup against University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday with a non-conference contest against the University of St. Thomas on Sunday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints fell 4-1 on Monday night in the second leg of the Bridge Battle with the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
-With Monday's loss the Saints fell to third place in the UMAC standings, behind UW-Superior and Minnesota Morris
-CSS has lost three consecutive games, having allowed four goals in each of those contests.
-The team has allowed 30 goals this season which is the first time that number has been reached since the 2005 season.
-The Saints have also lost back-to-back conference games for the first time since the 2002 season.
-Senior Darby Henderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) reached 50 career points with his goal Monday night against UWS.
-Freshman midfielder Jordan Finneran (Newmarket, England/Cambridge Regional College) has recorded at least one point in each of the last five games he has appeared in and leads the team with six assists.
-Finneran ranks 16th in NCAA Division III, averaging 0.67 assists per game.
 
What You Need to Know about Minnesota Morris:
Record: 5-7-3, 5-1-2 UMAC
-The Cougars are slotted second in UMAC rankings going into the weekend, it would be their highest finish in conference standings since 2014.
-The Cougars are 2-3-1 on the road this season.
-The Cougars offensive attack is pretty spread out this season, they have seven players with four or more points on the season. The two leaders of the squad with six points each is Hugo Castaneda (3G, 0A) and Jake Alessio (1G, 4A)
-Sophomore Jake Peterson has led the way in the net starting nine games and only allowing 10 goals on 54 shots.
-Lucas Harmon has also got his fair shake in net only surrendering five goals in five games on 31 total shots.

Series History: The Saints have dominated the all-time series against the Cougars, in the seven games they haven't beat the Cougars they've tied three of them and only surrendered seven goals in those seven games.
 
What You Need to Know about St. Thomas:
Record: 9-3-1, 4-2-1 MIAC
-The Tommies come into the weekend tied for second in the MIAC standings at 13 points, though they do have one more game played than the other two teams.
-The Tommies are 4-1-0 on the road this season, and have outscored opponents 13-8 in those games.
-St. Thomas comes into the weekend on a two-game win streak, they will face a pair of UMAC teams this weekend.
-The Tommies are 5-1-0 in non-conference games this season.
-Freshman Jack Berry leads the Tommies in points (14) and goals (6), he also leads them in GWG (3)
-Senior Aidan Hogan has played most of the season in net for St. Thomas, allowing 13 goals in 10 contests with a record of 6-2-1.
 
Series Record: St. Thomas leads 10-3-2 (Last Meeting: 1-0 St. Thomas – 10/8/17
 
Series History: In the last six meetings the Saints are 2-3-1 even though the Tommies are on a three-game win streak over the Saints being ranked seventh or eighth in the country in those last three meetings. The last win for the Saints was in 2015 when they beat the 23rd ranked Tommies.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints stay in the MIAC and head on the road to St. Paul to face Macalester College Wednesday.
