Women’s Hockey Hosts St. Thomas Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team has its first game of 2018 on Saturday when it welcomes No. 8 University of St. Thomas to Mars Lakeview Arena for a non-conference showdown.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints have not played since a 2-2 tie against Hamline University on December 8.
-This will only be St. Scholastica's third home game of the season (1-0-1 in first two games).
-For only the second time in program history, the Saints enter play after January 1 with only one loss. (2013-14)
-Both Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)) and Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) have recorded four points in the last two games.
-CSS is 5-0-1 when Stegora and Klaas record a point and 0-1-2 when they do not.
-Stegora's four game-winning goals ranks second in NCAA Division III.
-Freshman goaltender Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) is coming off a player of the week performance against Hamline.
-Huseby made 54 saves against the Pipers, the third-most in program history, and was named to the D3hockey.com Team of the Week and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Defensive Player of the Week.
-The Saints are 6-0-2 when they record the first goal.
-CSS is 1-0-1 against the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season, but have been out-shot 97-42 in those two games.
 
What You Need to Know about St. Thomas:
-The Tommies enter Saturday's contest with an 8-3-1 overall record.
-St. Thomas is 4-1-1 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.
-St. Thomas is ranked eighth in the most current USCHO.com poll.
-The Tommies had a four-game unbeaten streak ended with a 3-2 loss to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on December 13.
-The Tommies are 2-0 against the NCHA with a series sweep on the road over Lake Forest College (Ill.) to open the season.
-Senior defenseman Allison Borgstrom leads the team with seven goals and 11 points.
-Freshman forward Mady Fiedler has a team-high seven assists and is second on the squad with 10 points.
-Junior goaltender Mackenzie Torpy has three shutouts and ranks third in the MIAC with a 1.54 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage.
-St. Thomas leads NCAA Division III with a 95.7 percent success rate on the penalty kill.
-The Tommies have allowed only two power-play goals in 46 chances.
-However, St. Thomas ranks last in the MIAC in power-play efficiency with only three power-play goals in 47 chances.
-The Tommies are 7-1-1 when they record the first goal on the contest.

Looking Ahead: The Saints will face Hamline University for a second time this season when it travels to St. Paul to face the Pipers on Tuesday.
