MANKATO, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's tennis team swept Bethany Lutheran College 9-0 on Saturday at the BLC Tennis Courts. With this win, they clinched at least a share of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship. It is their 20th championship win in the last 21 seasons.
Doubles
The No. 1 team,
Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) and
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College), and the No. 2 team,
Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn. /Rochester Century HS) and
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS), beath their Viking opponents with a final score of 8-1.
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) and
Emma Bartels (Roseville, Minn. /Mounds View HS (Minn.-Duluth)), the No. 3 team, swept their opponents 8-0.
Singles
Scanlan (No. 1) and
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) (No. 2) blanked for a final score of 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3,
Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) won her first two games for a score of 2-0. But, after her opponent backed out, Samz won by default. Â No. 4
Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis. /Altoona HS) struggled through the first set but ended up breezing through the second to take home the win with a final score of 7-6, 6-0. At No. 5, Jolene Huda triumphed 6-3, 6-1.
Serena Hutson (Meridian, Idaho /Bishop Kelly HS) at No. 6 conquered, ending her match 6-3, 6-3.
