PREVIEW: Women's Tennis Set for Three Matches in Three Days

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team will have three matches in three days this weekend, spotlighted by a key Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) home contest against the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Saturday.

Singles/Doubles: The Saints are 44-28 in singles action thus far this season with a 10-2 mark at the No. 5 spot … In doubles play, the Saints are 24-12 with a 9-3 record at the No. 1 spot.

The Knights are coming off an 8-1 victory over North Central University (Minn.) last Saturday for their first win of the season … Prior to that, Martin Luther had not played since February 20 at Buena Vista University (Iowa) … The Knights are 9-21 in singles action and 3-12 in doubles play thus far … Martin Luther finished third in the league last season, but has to replace five of its top seven players.

The Eagles went 4-1 on its Spring Break Trip two weeks ago with its lone loss coming to Rhodes College by a 5-4 score … Both the Eagles and Saints have played UMD and Gustavus Adolphus College … Both teams beat UMD by 6-3 margins, while the UNW fell to Gustavus 8-1 and the Saints fell 9-0 … Northwestern is led by reigning UMAC Player of the Year Karen Moe, who is 14-0 at the No. 1 spot … Moe is ranked 14th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) … The Eagles are 14-1 at the No. 6 singles flight so far on the year and are in double figures in wins at every singles flight with the exception of the No. 2 spot … Moe has teamed with Tina Matetich to go 10-2 at the No. 1 doubles spot … Brooke Lapinski and Rachel Lukkarilla are 10-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot … The Eagles are 71-19 in singles and 37-8 doubles play this year.

The Eagles finished second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in the fall … La Crosse defeated Luther College (Iowa) 9-0 before going 3-1 on its Spring Break trip last week … The Eagles will take on Bethel University on Saturday before facing the Saints on Sunday … La Crosse is ranked No; 15 in Central Region by the ITA and is led by Bridget Bellissimo, who is 12-4 at the No. 1 spot … Sadie Spahn is 13-3 at the No. 2 spot and Hayley Clope is 15-1 at the No. 3 spot … Bellissimo has teamed with Spahn to go 14-2 at the No. 1 doubles … The Eagles are 83-19 in singles and 44-7 in doubles play this season.
