Women's Tennis Goes 1-1 on Tuesday in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team split its two matches on Tuesday in a chilly Central Florida.
 
Cornell (Iowa) 6, CSS 3
The Saints suffered their second defeat of the season with a morning loss to Cornell College (Iowa).
 
The No. 2 doubles team of Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn. /Rochester Century HS) won 8-4, but that was the lone St. Scholastica doubles team to win.
 
The Saints needed to win four of the six singles matches to rally and win the dual. Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) won at the No. 3 spot 7-5, 6-3. Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) also won at No. 5 by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
 
However, the Saints would drop two, third set super-breakers, which swung the match in the Rams' (15-4) favor. CSS fell at the No. 1 spot 3-6, 6-3, (10-4) and at the No. 6 spot 4-6, 6-3, (10-4).
 
CSS 6, Saint Mary's (Ind.) 3
The Saints played under the lights at the new USTA Center against Saint Mary's College (Ind.) in cool conditions and came out on top 6-3.
 
CSS got off to a good start sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) won 8-4. The No. 2 team of Rice and Fink won 8-6. That was the same victorious score for the No. 3 team of Hauer and Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS).
 
The Saints proceeded to win the top three singles flights to take the dual. Scanlan won in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. Solberg rallied to win in a third set super-breaker at the No. 1 spot 4-6, 6-4, (10-6). The final winner was Hauer also coming from behind to win a super-breaker 3-6, 6-1, (10-8) at the No. 3 spot.

The Saints (9-2) conclude play down in Florida tomorrow when they face McMurry University (Texas).
