Women's Tennis Remains Perfect





Notables

OWATONNA, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team improved to 4-0 this season with a 5-4 victory over St. Olaf College Saturday morning.
 
Doubles:
The Saints had the upper hand after doubles play, winning two of the three matches. The No. 2 team of Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn. /Rochester Century HS) and Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) got things rolling with an 8-3 win. That was followed by an 8-6 victory by the No. 3 team of Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Emma Bartels (Roseville, Minn. /Mounds View HS (Minn.-Duluth)).
 
Singles:
After winning No. 1 doubles, the Oles took the first singles match of the day to even the dual at 2-2. Rice followed with a victory at the No. 6 spot by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
 
St. Olaf briefly took a 4-3 lead in the dual by winning at the No. 1 and 4 spots. However, the Saints responded with a 6-1, 6-1 win by Samz at the No. 5 spot.
 
Finally, in the decisive match, Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) held off her opponent at the No. 2 spot, winning a pair of tiebreakers 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2) to keep the Saints perfect on the year. The victory also give Scanlan her 100th career victory, becoming the fifth player in program history to hit that milestone.
 
Up Next:
The Saints are back at the Arrowhead Tennis Center next Saturday when they face Gustavus Adolphus College.
