OWATONNA, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team improved to 4-0 this season with a 5-4 victory over St. Olaf College Saturday morning.
Doubles:
The Saints had the upper hand after doubles play, winning two of the three matches. The No. 2 team of
Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn. /Rochester Century HS) and
Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) got things rolling with an 8-3 win. That was followed by an 8-6 victory by the No. 3 team of
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Emma Bartels (Roseville, Minn. /Mounds View HS (Minn.-Duluth)).
Singles:
After winning No. 1 doubles, the Oles took the first singles match of the day to even the dual at 2-2. Rice followed with a victory at the No. 6 spot by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
St. Olaf briefly took a 4-3 lead in the dual by winning at the No. 1 and 4 spots. However, the Saints responded with a 6-1, 6-1 win by Samz at the No. 5 spot.
Finally, in the decisive match,
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) held off her opponent at the No. 2 spot, winning a pair of tiebreakers 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2) to keep the Saints perfect on the year. The victory also give Scanlan her 100
th career victory, becoming the fifth player in program history to hit that milestone.

The Saints are back at the Arrowhead Tennis Center next Saturday when they face Gustavus Adolphus College.
