MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's track & field team could not gain any ground on eventual champion University of Wisconsin-Superior on day two of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Outdoor Championships and finished second for the first time since 2011.
Points Breakdown
After Friday's events, the Saints were in second place with 93.5 points. UW-Superior led with 123 points. The University of Minnesota Morris was third with 56.5 points and the University of Northwestern fourth with 27 points.
At the end of the meet on Saturday, the Yellowjackets had lengthened its lead to win its first UMAC Outdoor Championship. UW-Superior finished with 254 points. The Saints were second with 196.5 points. Minnesota Morris was second with 117.5 points and Northwestern was fourth with 83 points.
Peterson Breaks Record in the Hammer
On Friday,
Jeremy Peterson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) broke his own program record and set a meet record in the hammer throw with a winning toss of 194'6" (59.28m). That is the third-best mark in NCAA Division III this season.
Jinkins Wins on Friday
Kenneth Jinkins (Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) won the long jump with a season-best mark of 21'2.75" (6.47m).
Winners on Saturday
Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, Minn./Cleveland HS) won the 110m hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.12. Peterson won the discus throw with a toss of 151'8" (46.24m).
Top Finishers on Friday
Luke McKenzie (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) was runner-up in the 800m run with a time of 2:02.18.
Mason Gracia (Houston, Texas/Prior Lake HS (Minn.)) was fifth in that event.
Mike Naumann (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern HS) and
Aaron Egelkraut (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) placed second and third, respectfully, in the 400m hurdles. Naumann's time was 57.85, while Egelkraut finished in 59.47.
Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, Minn./Cleveland HS) was second in the pole vault, clearing 12'8" (3.86m).
Frank Cerar (Plainview, Minn./Plainview-Elgin-Millville HS) was fourth in that event.
Adam Wallenta (Eagan, Minn./Farmington HS) was third in the 3,000m steeplechase, posting a time of 10:26.49.
The 4x800m relay team of Gracia,
Jimmy Lovrien (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS),
Bobby Verchota (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) and
Joshua Pearson (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West HS) was third, posting a time of 8:46.59.
Wagner was fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.78. Jinkins was fifth in that event. Wagner was also fifth in the javelin with a toss of 145'8" (44.39m).
Top Finishers on Saturday
Jinkins was runner-up in the 100m dash with a time of 11.13 and in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.50. He was also third in the triple jump with a mark of 41'0.25" (12.50m).
Wagner was second in the high jump, clearing 5'11.25" (1.81m). The 4x400m relay team of Egelkraut, McKenzie, Gracia and Verchota was second with a time of 3:29.53.
Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) was third in the 5,000m run, posting a time of 16:02.39. He was also fifth in the 1,500m run, finishing in 4:16.68.
The 4x100m relay team of
Patrick Murphy (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS), Wagner, Egelkraut and Naumann were third finishing in 45.10. Peterson placed third in the shot put with a mark of 47'4.5" (14.44m).
