Peterson Ends Career at NCAA Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica senior Jeremy Peterson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) finished in his collegiate career by placing 11th in the Hammer Throw on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Wartburg College.

Peterson entered the event with the fourth-best mark this season at 194'6" (59.28m).

His first attempt would be the best of his three attempts on Saturday with toss of 181'11" (55.44m). That would rank sixth after the first round. Peterson would foul on his second attempt and his third mark would not better his placing, so he had to hope to finish in the top nine to advance to the finals and get three more attempts.

Unfortunately, five competitors would pass him in the second and third round of throws to end Peterson's season with an 11th place finish.

Edward Cummins of Rhode Island College, who had the best mark during the season, won the national title with a toss of 204'0.5" (62.19m), which beat the rest of the field by over two meters.

Peterson was competing in his third straight NCAA Outdoor Championships in the Hammer Throw, becoming just the second Saint in the men's program's history to participate in multiple NCAA Championships in the same event.
