ST. PAUL (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team defeated the University of Northwestern on Saturday 6-3 to win the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season title outright for the first time since 2013.
Doubles
The Saints dropped their first doubles match of the season in league play, but took care of business at the No. 1 and 2 flights. The No. 1 team of
Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) and
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) won 8-5 for its 11
th straight victory. The No. 2 team of
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) and
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) cruised by its opponent 8-1.
Singles
St. Scholastica was able to take four of the six singles match to capture the dual win. Scanlan (No. 2) won 6-3, 6-0 for her 10
th straight victory. Rojas (No. 4) outlasted her opponent 6-4, 7-5.
At No. 5,
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) won her 11
th straight match by scores of 6-1, 6-3. Finally,
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) at the No. 6 spot took down her opponent 6-4, 6-3.

The Saints (18-5, 10-0 UMAC) will take part in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament next weekend at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. The semifinals get underway on Friday.
